Description
For many, being a member of a nondominant group shapes how we integrate with our colleagues, patients, and their families. Developing awareness and empathy for the additional burdens these members face is paramount to helping maintain diversity in CHEST medicine. At CHEST 2019, the first panel entitled Being Me was presented in the Trainees lounge. It was requested to have another session with more time for interactive opportunities and discussion. This interactive session will address specific scenarios involving bias, racism, etc, faced by the panel of presenters and go through a more indepth discussion on how to approach each opportunity.
Learning Objective 1
Understand experiences of others who face discrimination and microaggressions.
Learning Objective 2
Develop a better awareness of these situations to become a better ally for others.
