Description
The AASM Public Safety Committee identifies safety risks related to sleep, fatigue, and circadian misalignment and develops strategies to advocate for and promote improved regulatory oversight, awareness, alertness, and overall safety. This session will explore considerations for the practice of sleep medicine addressed by AASM resources and advisories developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Presenters also will discuss the rationale behind two recently published AASM position statements: one identifying sleep loss as an overlooked factor contributing to physician burnout, and the other declaring that seasonal time changes should be abolished in favor of a fixed, national, year-round standard time.
Learning Objective 1
Become familiar with the resources available from the AASM to guide risk mitigation strategies for the practice of sleep medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic
Learning Objective 2
Understand the public health and safety implications of physician burnout and daylight saving time
