Description
Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is very common in CHF and includes both obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and central sleep apnea-Cheyne Stokes respiration (CSA-CSR). OSA can worsen heart function and also CHF-related disease outcomes. CSA-CSR is a likely consequence of CHF. Both CSA and OSA can cause blood gas abnormalities, negative swings in intrathoracic pressure, and arousals. Recent new developments in the management of SDB in CHF include inpatient screening of CHF patients for SDB and use of phrenic nerve stimulation for treatment of CSA. This session will highlight these recent advances in managment of SDB in CHF.

Learn about new data on utility of inpatient screening for SDB in CHF.
Learning Objective 2
