Description
Suicide among physicians continues to affect all specialties and occurs during training and beyond. Both female and male physicians have rates of suicide that are higher than in the general population. Doctors who die by suicide have significant rates of untreated or undertreated depression. Addiction/alcoholism also plays a major role. We aim to discuss warning signs of depression in doctors, available resources, and consequences of addiction/alcoholism that go untreated. We will differentiate burnout from depression, and will emphasize societal ramifications of physician suicide.
Learning Objective 1
Recognize warning signs for death by suicide in your physician colleagues.
Learning Objective 2
